Other uses of putty

Putty finds its use for fixing the glass panes on the wooden windows. With the arrival of the plastic windows, the use of putty has decreased. You mix linseed oil and ground chalk in the desired proportion to get the glazing used as putty. One can get more strength by adding butyl rubber. People use putty with a water base in woodworking these days since they emit less odor.

Comparison of the two types of putty

You have two types of putty in general use. One is the readymade putty while the other is the putty based on cement. You get the readymade putty in paste form. The cement based putty comes in powder form. You cannot use the readymade putty on exteriors. To use the cement based putty, one must mix it with some water. Readymade putty has the other name acrylic putty.

You start to apply the putty after you have done the sanding of the wall. Remove the dust and apply the wall putty to make the surface even. This gives long life to the paint.
